Creating Video Stories

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, what is a video worth? Apparently, a lot! Our world has gone crazy for short, reels, what we might generically refer to as short form video. These are quick and fit our new attention spans.

Whether you want to create interest in your department, create a public service announcement, sell something, or just create interesting videos for friends it is now so easy to do with or without AI (which is a whole other conversation!)

When I do create a video, I like to think about story. Even if it’s a super short video like this one, I have a story in mind. For this one, I happen to know the “client” well and know what inspires him and his business. He loves the beach and is involved with real estate in southern Florida, particularly the West Palm, Boynton Beach, and Delray area. I also happen to have done research on Place and it truly is powerful. It has implications for identity, belonging and well-being. His brokers company using the green color and additionally he fancies himself as a ukulele player want to be. His brand is helping people fulfill their desire to live in paradise and enjoy the carefree warm weather lifestyle.

All of those concepts when into this short and set up concepts for additional items in a media campaign if we chose to do so. If you’re a communication/media major and have taken courses including topics like messaging, narratives, story telling, persuasion, social media this all applies here. The choices you make tell the story. Future posts could elaborate on place and how important that is to identity, well-being and belonging. Interviews or pod casts could center on these ideas and how South Florida can capture these for potential Floridians and particularly how Chris Reynolds is suited to help. His own story of how he came to be a South Florida dweller can also be included as his journey along the beach.

Now, can AI do this for you? That is another question, which requires another post. I used Canva to create this video. It’s pretty easy to use, just upload your video and add your music and captions. Anything you don’t know how to do, like fade in music or something is easy to figure out or use a tutorial that is readily available.

And just a note, ideally you’d want to make your video part of your blog page, however, Word Press apparently wants me to pay more money for that! So, enjoy the embedded YouTube link. Ah, the joys of social media!
