Homeschool moms always hold a special place in my heart since I was one. Supporting homeschool moms and understanding their needs is critical to the optimal functioning of homeschool families. This research draws from focus groups with homeschool moms and finds that the moms in my study reject the outdated ideals and standard of the good mother. They find their own ways to cope with balancing their many roles.

“Understanding a naked face in a masked society”
This one is different from much of my research. As part of a graduate student research group we worked with the City of West Lafayette Parks department to showcase the voices of neighbors and residents surrounding Happy Hollow Park. We used a very mixed methods approach utilizing charrettes, maps, photos, interviews, historical data and field notes.

Memorable messages is one of my favorite frameworks for research. This work surveyed homeschooled students to gain understanding of what they remembered being told about college and the impact those messages had on them. I learned several messages I hadn’t considered before in doing this work.
