Let’s face it, we have a limited commodity called time. It is precious and valuable and most of us find our supply is low. Whether you’re a busy professor with no allotted time for department promotion or a student trying to launch a side hustle it pays to make use of some simple tools.
Often, I use Adobe express or Canva to create some quick messaging for our department. Would I love to do something super creative and time involved, sure, but sometimes getting the message out is more important than overthinking it and never getting any message out. Can you relate?
At the basic level these tools are free and often universities such as IU give you access to even more if you sign in with your University account. They are pretty easy to use and you’ll find a ton of tutorials available if needed. One of the misnomers about this college generation is that they are good at “online stuff” and while they do spend a good amount of time online that doesn’t always translate to good at using or creating. My social media students often tell me that is one of their frustrations. They get into a part time job or internship and employers assume they know a lot about social media, digital tools and content creation just because they are young adults. If you are a student you can easily remedy this with a few tutorials and a few hours of exploration.
Here are a few things I’ve created for our department using these simple tools. What will you create today? Where will you let your voice be heard?
